A Little Background…

As a social media platform, perhaps no other has had the controversy as Twitter has. And Twitter, now called X, remains volatile, but in a way that has powerful potential, because it is among the few platforms that allows freedom of speech. Sure, there are “rules of engagement,” but since its acquisition in 2022 by billionaire, Elon Musk, what content was largely monitored, and much disallowed, is now being permitted. This is good news!

Just Exactly What is X?

X is a social networking and microblogging service. Users use any device with an internet connection and a web browser to send and to read messages, called “tweets.” In the past, “tweets” could only be up to 140 characters long, but as of November 2017, now users can send entries up to 280 characters.

From the “About” page on Twitter, “Twitter is what’s happening and what people are talking about right now. We serve the public conversation. That’s why it matters to us that people have a free and safe space to talk. Life’s not about a job, it’s about purpose. We believe real change starts with conversation. Here, your voice matters.”

Thankfully, this is more accurate now that Mr. Musk has acquired the platform.

A Little More Background…

In 2017, Twitter claimed it had 330 million active users worldwide, but that number proved to be inaccurate. A 2020 study suggested that up to 15% of the users weren’t real people but bots engaged in phishing scams, fake engagement, and other dishonest activity. Remarkably, users increased.

In October 2022, businessman Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion after a heated purchase process in which Musk tried to back out, citing the aforementioned bots. Eventually, Musk closed the deal. In 2023, Musk announced that the Twitter name was going to be replaced by the simple letter, X. The new name and logo, X, replaced the bluebird icon on the website.

You can use videos, images, or words, or some combination of the three, and there’s an X ad format that fits your business goals. With X you can build brand awareness, grow your following and create a loyal audience, and promote your products and services.
